The mists of Avalon were down, and the weather was still and below zero. This pulls out cobwebs you wouldn't normally notice. These things are feats of engineering, and the spiders are continually busy, catching flies, catching dew - probably catching cosmic energy rays as well. To Native Americans, Grandmother Spider is a major deity - she weaves the web of life, the structure behind form, the morphogenic software that programs creation. I took these photos on my way to attend a Ghost Dance, organised by a shamanistic friend of mine. Grandmother Spider was presumably giving her blessing. Failing that, she was transitorily beautifying the world, just for the creativity of it. Natural jewellery. | |||
